Nova Express brings brake testing in-house with Totalkare

Nova Express invests in Totalkare mobile brake tester

Birmingham-based transport and logistics firm Nova Express is looking forward to significant time and cost savings after investing in a mobile brake tester from Totalkare.

With a large and varied fleet from light commercial vans to 44,000kg articulated trucks, Nova Express operates across the UK and Europe from its base in central Birmingham.  But by outsourcing its brake testing, heavy traffic was making each test a time-consuming exercise that impacted negatively on its fleet availability.

Nova Express addressed this by introducing a mobile brake tester solution with extended on-ramps from Totalkare, enabling brake tests to be undertaken in-house.  It complements the cable-free mobile column lifts already in the workshop which were also supplied by Totalkare.

Cutting out test costs, fuel and time

Totalkare’s mobile brake tester can test up to 20,000kg per axle, with testing made simple thanks to the supplied tablet which enables tests to be conducted from the driver’s seat of the vehicle.  With no civil work required, installation was simple and straightforward, instantly saving Nova Express time and money.

In addition, Totalkare will be supporting the brake tester with a service contract which includes two service visits and two calibrations per year.

“We lose a lot of time taking vehicles to a test lane because of the heavy traffic around the centre of Birmingham,” said John Richardson, Managing Director at Nova Express, “By bringing our brake testing in-house we stand to benefit three-fold by cutting out the test costs, fuel and time involvement.

“We discussed brake testers with several suppliers and chose Totalkare because of what we felt to be their superior product knowledge and understanding of our requirements – particularly for the tri-axle vehicles within our fleet.”

George Georgiou, Area Sales Manager for Totalkare, agreed: “We’ve supported Nova Express for several years with the supply of mobile column lifts at their Birmingham workshop and we’re delighted to expand this support with the introduction of our mobile brake tester.”
