Totalkare is pleased to announce Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) as its charity partner for 2020.
RMHC provides homes for families to stay nearby whilst their child is being treated in hospital. The RMHC organisation has been supporting families globally since 1974, with the first UK house being constructed in 1989. They have 11 houses across the UK, including in Birmingham, Manchester, London and Brighton. They’re each located as close as possible to a specialist children’s hospital, meaning that families can be based close enough to be with their child in an instant, whilst maintaining somewhat of normal life, significantly reducing emotional and financial stress.
At the end of every year, Totalkare invites all staff to submit a charity suggestion for the following year. A company-wide vote saw RHMC elected as Totalkare’s charity partner 2020.
RMHC was suggested by Jess Porter, Internal Sales Manager at Totalkare, who said “My cousin had a baby boy called Charlie who was born with a very rare genetic disorder which impacts his breathing. He requires a bespoke ventilation mask at night and 24-hour supervision. Because of this he spent the first 8 months of his life in intensive care. The RHMC housed my cousin and his partner in a nearby house the whole time so they could be with Charlie.
“The good news is that, although Charlie still requires an oxygen machine at all times, he is now two, and is out and about making good progress.”
2020 is a big year for Totalkare, marking its 40th year supplying mobile column lifts. With this in mind, staff will be taking part in ‘Totalkare’s 40 for 40’ – aiming to raise at least £40 each through their own charitable fundraising for RMHC.
Clare Abrey, Marketing Executive at Totalkare said, “Having heard Jess’ personal story, and having spoken to representatives at the charity, I am really looking forward to this year’s fundraising and helping to make a positive impact for this wonderful charity. We are looking forward to visiting our nearby RMHC house in Birmingham soon, and taking up lots of fundraising and volunteering opportunities throughout 2020.”
